About Alice West Fleet

In September 2019, Alice W. Fleet Elementary School opened its doors and became the second Net Zero Energy school in Arlington County with a focus on sustainability and environmental conservation. Fleet is a neighborhood school serving students in pre-K through fifth grade. Fleet’s students and staff will be guided by the school motto, “Let nothing and no one stop you.” This is a nod to our namesake, Alice West Fleet, who was the first African American reading teacher in APS.  At Fleet, students learn the importance of giving back to the community and how their actions impact the environment through Fleet’s exemplary project.  In addition, we are home to the countywide Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program where our community emphasizes language access for all.
