How to Prepare to Return to School: Fellow Falcons as we prepare for students to return to school in the Hybrid Model, please begin practicing the following items below.

  4. School Supplies: Crayons/Markers, Pens/Pencils, Paper, erasers, highlighters, scissors, the APS Toolkits
  5. Please do not send your child to school sick.  We can’t take any chances and must protect the entire hybrid community’s health.  Your child’s peers, teachers and neighbors are counting on your honesty about your child’s health and we know that everyone wants their child back at school so please send only healthy students to school.
  6. Have your child practice wearing masks while at home during virtual school and when you go to play outside

Qualtrics Screening: For those of you attending in person.  You will receive from APS a link for an app called Qualtrics via email.  The email will be from APS Covid response team.  Qualtrics is a health screening that needs to be completed each morning prior to your child(ren) arriving at Fleet.  If you have more than one child, you will need to do a screening and screenshot for each child.  When you put your child on the bus, you will be asked to show a screenshot with time and date stamped with your child’s name on it.   This is the same for students who are arriving on foot to Fleet or riding in a car.  If your child does not pass the health screening, they will not be able to attend school that day. Additional information will be shared at the Town Hall, Tuesday.

I am Jazz Day:
As part of the new Fleet initiative to promote increase understanding of diversity and the promotion of inclusion. Fleet would like to recognize I am Jazz Day. Fleet will celebrate students such as Jazz and other community members in our 1st Annual Diversity and Inclusion Day, March 24th.

Counseling CornerOne-on-one activities: Every child enjoys a little one-on-one time now and then. It doesn’t have to be an all-day event. Even spending 10 minutes playing a board game, reading a book or playing charades can boost everyone’s sense of connection and well-being.

Please be aware this may change in the future, and we will share this information in the Fleet Beat.

The Virginia Department of Education has frozen all gifted service identification steps at this time and is in the process of reviewing new procedures during the pandemic.

Message from the Seneca Family Agencies: Todo Por Mi Familia through Seneca Family of Agencies is a nonprofit that primarily works on the West Coast, but has recently started focusing on working with families on a national level to connect them to mental health services. We are here to serve families who immigrated through our southern border and were separated from their family, starting July 1, 2017 to present day. Our hope is to partner with community members/organizations in different hubs around the country, where families may reside in. Our work encompasses providing notice to families of the availability of services, assessing their interest in services, and then connecting those who are interested to mental health providers in their communities. We are able to cover all costs associated with services, and coordinate interpretation services where needed. All information shared with us is kept strictly confidential, and we do not provide any information about class members back to the Government.

COVID 19 PLAN:
Out of an abundance of caution Fleet’s administration would like to suggest that families with children create a plan for what will happen if the caregiver or caregivers in the family become ill with COVID-19. A Covid-19 Family Plan should establish which family members, friends or other trusted adults can help care for your children in case of an emergency. (Preferably, these care givers should live close by, be trusted by the children and not fall into a high-risk category for COVID-related complications.) Children, in general, should know where emergency numbers are kept and how to reach out for support in case of an emergency.

Supporting Independence:
Thank you to all our parents who have worked closely with our falcons to start their distance learning journey. As we continue with Distance Learning, we ask that parents begin to encourage our students to become more independent in their activities and logging in.

  • Print out their schedule and remind your child of their log-in time for class; setting the alarm for critical moments can be very helpful (start of school, lunch, movement breaks) as they become familiar with their day.
  •  Remind them to charge their iPads every night
  • Be around but not next to them to begin to stretch out those wings of independence.
  • Encourage them to walk away from the iPad during breaks and lunch
  • Ask them to share something they learned with you at the end of the day.

APS Toolkits:
Arlington Public Schools has ordered a toolkit for every student Prek-5, and we are expecting the delivery of the items next week. Once they are delivered, we will repackage them by grade level and share them with the community times they can come to get the toolkits.

Monday Asynchronous Activities:
Staff will post activities by 9 am every Monday for students to complete at home. The expected time to complete such activities is two hours and forty minutes, but some students, as in school, may complete activities either faster or slower than the expected time. If your child becomes frustrated or is unable to complete the work, please email the teacher so they are aware and can address any concerns in the classroom.

Fleet Technical Support:
As we continue with our online learning, Fleet Family, please refer to our website for any help you may need; we wanted to provide you with clear directions and support for the following:

Welcome Back!
Let me be the first to welcome back everyone to the start of the 2020-21 school year. I understand that there is anxiety about what distance learning will be like when we return. We have all learned so much over the past five months. Please be reassured that we have been learning how to better engage with students using technology. Teachers are preparing to teach new content, work with students in small groups, and work with you to make it successful. We are fortunate to have incredibly talented, hard-working, and creative teachers at Fleet. Many of our teachers have spent the summer engaged in professional development to sharpen their technology skills to develop personalized instruction to meet each child’s individual needs. Our teachers are developing lessons that explicitly teach students the skills and strategies needed to grow as learners. Thank you for allowing us to serve your children and provide them with a positive and enriching learning experience. Get ready for a fantastic year!

Classroom Letter
We have sent out the classroom assignment letters and should arrive shortly to every family over the next few days. Your welcome back letters also contain your teacher assignment and virtual schedules to help you plan how the virtual day will look for your child.

Grade level schedules
Will be posted on our website to allow for you to review and download at your convenience.
